Use of Glue Laminated Beams
The exposure of wood, especialy outdoors, because of temperature and moisture variations is very high. Even at glue laminated beams shrinkage cracks can happen, but just in an minor admeasurement as at solid wood.
Conditional to the various structure of the glued billets shrinkage cracks often blend along the glued joint. This is not a defect, it is an attribute of the raw material. Shrinkage cracks can be up to 1/6 of the component width and do not affect the safeness and the safe working loads which are covered according to DIN 1052.
